Matthew P. Guichard
General Managing Director

Matthew P. Guichard is a nationally recognized trial attorney, and the founding member of Guichard, Teng & Portello, with offices in Concord and Davis, California. His practice focuses on general and commercial litigation, business transactions, alternative dispute resolution and general trial work.

After graduating from law school, Matt obtained a certificate in Advanced International Legal Studies at Salzburg University, Salzburg Austria. He then practiced at the Danish Law Firm of Lars Christensen, Kyed & Partners in Odense, Denmark.

Upon returning from Denmark, Matt served as a Deputy District Attorney in Contra Costa County California. During his outstanding career at the District Attorney's Office, Matt served on the homicide team, managed the sexual assault team and handled thousands of felony cases.

In 1990, Matt joined the San Francisco office of Ropers, Majeski, Kohn, Bentley, Wagner and Kane. In 1993, he opened and managed the firm's Sacramento office.

Matt is admitted to practice in the State of California, the U.S. Supreme Court, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and all U.S. District Courts in California. He is a member of the Defense Research Institute, Association of Defense Counsel, the American Trial Lawyers, the International Bar Association, the San Francisco Bar Association, the Contra Costa Bar Association, the St. Thomas More Society and the American Inn of Court. He is a former State Bar Delegate from Contra Costa County. He is also a former chairman of the International Law Section of the Sacramento County Bar Association.

Matt authors the popular "Civil Jury Verdicts" column in the Contra Costa Lawyer magazine. He is a regular lecturer for the State Bar and University of California CEB Program. From 1984 to 1992, Matt was a regular instructor at the Los Medanos College Criminal Justice Training Center.

Matt is a former Chairman of the American Cancer Society Daffodil Days. He is a former board member of Child Assault Prevention of Contra Costa County, and is a current board member of Youth Homes, Inc. Born and raised in Walnut Creek, California, Matt is one of eight children of Claire and Roger Guichard. He currently resides in Walnut Creek, California. He is married and has three daughters, and a son.
